The Road to Rockford is a throwback buddy comedy
in the style of the legendary Bing Crosby / Bob Hope Road movies
of the 40’s and 50’s. The film takes the premise
and style of comedy from these films, but places it in the present,
where the characters deal with the modern world the way Hope
and Crosby dealt with their surroundings, while competing with
each other for the affections of their love interest.
The story focuses on two down-and-out Karaoke
singers who get sidetracked on their way to Rockford for a singing
competition. Their conniving and infighting get them caught
up in a high stakes poker game where indentured servitude is
on the line, a scam to pass an attractive young lady off as
Liza Minelli, and on the run from a porn industry king pin,
hell bent on exploiting their rugged good looks for his own
profit.
